About Gallery 25
While the average art gallery lasts just over ten years, Gallery 25 this year enters a robust middle age. Gallery 25, as a cooperative venue for Central Valley artists, celebrates 40 years of exhibitions in 2014. Begun as a project in the 1974 Feminist Art Program spearheaded by Professor Joyce Aiken at Fresno State University, the Gallery has grown over the years to include male artists. Gallery 25 features the best in Contemporary Art from the Central Valley of California and has been in downtown Fresno at the corner of Mono and Van Ness for the last 10 years. Our art includes painting, drawing, print-making, sculpture and installation in a variety of media. Exhibitions change monthly with opening receptions held on Downtown ArtHop, the first Thursday of every month.
The Fresno Art Museum 40th Anniversary Exhibition has been curated by Barbara Van Arnam, long-time member and recent President of the Gallery. Van Arnam visited each artist’s studio and, from a variety of art works that the individual artist had chosen for review, she selected one piece to best represent that artist. There are 20 artists featured, exhibiting paintings, drawings, print-making, and mixed media works. Selections for this 40th Anniversary Exhibition provide a glimpse of these artists’ talents.
